So i have a question. I am planning a ride for the 15th. Leaving Snow Hill NC and headed to Mackinaw City, then down the Wisconsin side to St Louis, them Paducah, then into southern KY then back home. The first 2 days i plan on Interstate or mostly anyway to Grand rapids MI. then secondary roads after that. Should i break up my rides on the ride planner by day or section. Like from here to Charleston WV, i am going to Super slab. Should i make that 1 route? then after that break them up to add the avoidance to the specific areas?

Sounds like it is going to be a really nice trip.

To address your question, here is what I do. In ride planner, each day's ride is a separate trip for me. So, if your first stop in West Va, I would plan a route from your home to West Va. Do that same thing for each day's ride.

Now, I do have a few questions for you. You mentioned that after mackinaw City, you are headed down the Wisconsin side. Are you saying that you are going over the UP (Upper Peninsular) around the lake?

If not and you are headed to KY, then you will likely head down around Chicago. An alternate might be to take one of the ferries (Muskegon 2 1/2 hour trip) or Ludington (about 4 hours).

On a different board, you and I have been talking about using your phone - google maps. This is an alternate that would be very helpful, especially with any road work and changes. Let me know some of your stopping places along the way - maybe I can help.

I want to go up the UP then maybe into Canada, then come back and go west then down into Wisconsin then to St Louis then South east.
I do have the route in mind I want to take and a Garmin, my IPhone 12 so I can use maps and I carry a paper Rand McNally Atlas, I like to look at it when we are winding down in the Hotel room (Campsite) lol. I went back in ride planner, I will be making daily stints and break them up in blocks of miles..

OK, so you are going across the UP. You mentioned going into Canada - could be a nice ride but unless you are going to double back, it's a very long way around Lake Superior.

You could cross at Sault St Marie - but, again, you would have to come back down - unless you go around Lake Superior. A better option might be to take 2 across the UP. This is a great ride - I just got back from that way last month. I left Milwaukee, came across Escanaba then back to Mackinaw City. Really nice roads. Also, plan to stop at Kitch-iti-kipi. Look it up in google.

This time of the year is great riding weather. Sun goes down around 6:30 or so. Plan to be in your room by then as it will get a little chilly, especially in the UP/

Look up Lake Orion, MI on the map. If your travels bring you close to here, let me know. Lake Orion, in my opinion is a better way to go then trying for Grand Rapids (unless you have a specific reason for that area. 127 is a good road up there. You will eventually get back on I75 but roads are nice going north. If you have plenty of time, then ride around the thumb) looks at a map of Michigan - looks like a mitten (left hand) -see the thumb on the hand) - we just took that ride from Alpena back to Lake Orion the other day.

Just going into Sault Ste Marie to pickup a few things and maybe spend the night to go look at the Ships in the locks but coming back down the same way and turn at St Ignace and go west.

You can do as one big long ride & breaking it up as locations. The unit will break up the ride as a new ride when it's a location & not a waypoint. But like Cycle7447 says, just design daily rides. It might be easier if you are not used to using the GTS,
