Rider Safety: Why Do Some Riders Not Care?
So another 105 degree heat advisory day here in sunny Florida. I pull up next to a guy on an Ultra. I glance over at him and saw that he was wearing:
rubber shower flip flops
shorts
tank top
no gloves
no helmet
I know it's hot out but it never ceases to amaze me how little some riders care about their own safety.

What is it that makes you feel you can judge them? Are you the safety police? Just unhappy with your own decision making? Perhaps you're told that you have to wear certain clothing / gear before your S.O. will let you go for a ride?
Live and let live, my friend. It's not just song lyrics, it's a great piece of advice.

In 105* weather, what do you suggest he ride in?

Or Hawaii. We were on Kauai and literally everyone riding was dressed that way.
My wife once wore shorts with chaps. Got to our stop and she took the chaps off. Then we needed to move the bikes. She hopped on and burned her leg on the pipe. I saw a hunk of skin sizzling like bacon on thr pipe! She learned the hard way. Maybe those other riders will learn too.

Another thread was about riding into Mexico. They had an American who makes YouTube videos while in Mexico and he has been doing it for year. Scooter Scotty? I forgot....
One of his videos has a bunch of shots of people on their scoots with many babies on board....
Even very young babies. One shot had an adult male, baby on the tank in front of him. baby on the back clinging to an adult female riding behind the adult male with kids all over the place.
Some had no shoes on...
But I see your point.....

When I see folks dressed like that, I think to myself they have not been down on the pavement and have no clue what it feels like to slide on the hot asphalt at 10 miles an hour, let alone a 50 miles an hour slide.
Been there done that with good protective gear and still got a bit of road rash on an elbow and one palm.
I don't judge, they can wear whatever they want, but will feel some pain if a yellow jacket or wasp goes up their shorts or a dime sized pebble/large bug hits them in the forehead.
