Riding in 100f outside temp, the exhaust heat off of the Cat Conv area is just too much.
2023 Flhtp. No mods.
Constantly moving my foot around and off the board.
What should I do? It is affecting my enjoyment of this bike.
I have some ideas but I would like to hear what others have done.

Many here have de-catted the pipe.

You can always replace it with an aftermarket system, then get a good dyno tune with a Power Vision. You would be extremely happy with the outcome.

 

Thanks NorthWestern . De catting is definitely one of my choices but I will likely not if it requires getting a tune. My preferred method in this would be removing muffler and drilling with a large diameter bit removing as much cat material as possible. Will I need a tune?
I am also considering exhaust heat wrapping the Cat area. Any experiences with this approach anyone?

 

Idea: don't ride when it's 100+f. Some things are not fixable.

 

Is it your feet that are getting hot?
If so you can buy or make your own spacers to move the boards out 1” on each side.
My Road King had a gap in the original heat shield right where your right foot goes. That can be uncomfortable.
My boards are moved outward and my heat shield now has no gap.

 

Air filter, slip-ons and a powervision tune from Jamie at Fuel Moto, big change in temp with cat still in place.

 

Get rid of the cats and retune. A richer AFR will cool the engine but make the cats run even hotter.

 

The Cat Converter is to the rear of where the front and rear cylinder head pipes join. You won't feel it on your right foot.

 

 

Different riding boots. I've never had an issue with too much heat off of the pipes. I usually wear Wolverine , but sometimes wear Harley lace up boots. I also always wear jeans.
Oh, and I just recently decatted my head pipe, for the sound, and didn't notice a change in the heat.
