I'm pretty sure a Cat delete will only benefit a passenger as far as heat goes. The engine and head pipes are HOT.

I always wear a two piece Aerostich riding suit. It keeps the heat and sun off my body. The secret to the suit working is flow through ventilation while riding, otherwise it would be of no help. I have worn it in 122F heat in Needles California. A guy riding with me with jeans and t-shirt got heat stroke. I also have access to ice water from insulated bottles in the two holsters on my bike.

 

DK Custom has some videos on you tube that show a couple of things you can do to reduce heat. Also there are you tube videos showing how to de-cat your bike. There are air deflectors, tank riser kits, floor board extensions that may help. I have de-catted and raised tank and added small wings to deflect more air to engine area. Helps but is still warm at times.

 

After my ride out west a couple of weeks ago, I’d had enough. My fuelmoto jackpot headpipe will be here tomorrow I think. I purchased that and a dynojet tuner and I’ll throw a k&n filter in it. While waiting and taking things apart I went ahead a made a reroute to keep the oil out of the filter/intake.

we’ll see how that works and then if I’m still not happy, I’ll try the HD cool flow fan next.

 

I wrapped my pipes with header wrap, and it helped considerably. Also, in the heat, and I’ve been in stop and go traffic at 105 degrees…I do what I can to get the bike moving,,.including riding the shoulder, if a Leo wants to ticket me, at least put me in the air conditionec car while ya write me up. Oh, and out my feet in the Highway legs as much as I can.

 

Oooh, I may have to spend $$ on the RKS and the FatBoy.

Ummm a richer tune COOLS the cats. You have it backwards.

 

Pretty sure the excess fuel burns in the catilytic onverter and makes it glow red hot. I've seen it on cars that had fuel issues and were running rich.

 

Catalytic converters require very high temperatures to even work, I doubt you can richen the mixture enough to "cool down the cat", but I could be wrong. Richening the mixture can affect engine temperatures (I would imagine a small amount), but exhaust gasses are another story
