You have the right idea. Take your stock stuff off and take it to a good powder coater then you don't end up with two of everything. Cheaper that way too. FYI the Harley accessory powder coated pieces are crap, scratch easily and can't be buffed out. My .02

 

Had all my chrome powder coated locally, except the will shiny forks and a couple of parts from D-tech..... did it all last winter, I did a thread on it.

 

Powdercoated a lot of pieces lately, and cerakoted my exhaust and highway lights.

Somethings like the bag latches and levers can be powdercoated for dirt cheap without much prep. compared to $80 for black saddle bag latches from HD or $120 for black levers, the powdercoating saves a ton of money. Powdercoating the floorboards was easy. the only real difficult part i've done so far was the rear passenger pegs; they're a tight fit going back together.
