Lightbulb radiator screen hack

I have not seen anything here after looking for a solution so I thought I'd share mine.
For the last 3 years, I've had to replace three of these screens. I've looked back at my bike and realize, one of them is gone. Don't know how, when, where or what happened. One time it flew off and I only knew it when I stopped and looked back and it had lodged itself into the space between the down tubes and the plastic water pump cover. I am **** about making sure they are in the slots and "click" when they go on, so I dont know how they get so loose as to fall off.

So, after replacing this last one while on a trip to Durango, CO, when I got home I stopped by ACE hardware for some black sheet metal screws. Found the smallest one I could use (#8 I think, 1/2" long). I drilled a small hole in the tab in the inside corner and ran the screw through the screen into this hole.

I guess if mine were constantly coming off, I would do the same.
Looks like a nice "clean" solution.

But in over 4 years and 25,000 miles I haven't ever lost one.
And yes, I take them off to clean the bugs out of the radiator fins.
So, they have been off and snapped back on multiple times.

Velcro..... piece on the grill. Piece on the lower. Been holding strong for two years. And no holes to drill

I thought about that but decided against it since A) was not sure how long the adhesive would last and B) didnt like that it added thickness making the screen stick out more. But if its doing the job, that's all that matters.

Could you post a couple of pics, with the grills installed and un-installed ?

Thanks.

Clever solution, I too haven't lost one of these yet- and I do remove them several time per year to debug the radiators.

Thanks for the pics.

Does the 'depth' of the velcro pieces cause the grills to 'bulge outward' at all ? Or is the grill just a flush around the frame as before ?

If there is a bulge, it's not noticeable at all. It seems there is a pretty good gap there
