Default Hype or truth

I am changing the oil in my 2015 Limited rear shocks. I have heard people say to use:
a. ATF
b. Motor Oil
c. Fork Oil
d. Suspension Oil

So is it just an advertising gimmick to get people to buy a more expensive oil or is there some truth in the type of oil really needed?
I had planned to use Bel Ray High Performance Fork oil in my rear shocks until I started reading what other people say to use. So what is the truth?
Will the rear wheels fall off if I use fork oil?

When I did mine on my old bike, I used 10wt fork oil. Never heard of using motor oil or ATF in the shocks.

Default Fork oil

I bought a MityVac hand pump, and added the 12 fl oz of Bel Ray High Performance Fork Oil to my shocks. I used 6 oz of 5 wt and 6 oz of 10 wt to give me 7.5 wt oil which I hope is not too heavy.. Pumped up to 30 lbs and left it overnight. Will check it today to see if I have any air leaks.

I plan to take it out tomorrow to see how all my mods work. First ride of the season, and testing my rebuild of both front forks, my 6 new wheel bearings, my rear shock fluid change, new front tire and handlebar adjustment.

I took the shocks completely off and threw them in the garbage can. Very happy with new (well, that was 40k ago)

Almost the same, but instead of the garbage I saved them just in case I ever traded the bike in (which at current mileage I know I won't ever do now).
