Crossover Pipe Gasket PITA

Crossover Pipe Gasket PITA
I installed a new Fuel Moto header pipe on my 15 Ultra today. When I installed the cross over pipe the gasket became distorted inside of the pipe and would not allow it to be attached to the header pipe. I went to my local dealer to pick up another one. Luckily they had only one? I wanted two in case I screwed up another one. The new gasket would not go into the end of the cross over pipe. To tight and it would just bunch up and not go into the pipe. What a pain in the ****! So I tried to open up the end of the cross over pie to make the end of the pipe just a little larger. No luck. Ended up f------- it up. Not sure what to do at this point. Buy a brand new cross over pipe? At least it would be brand new so the end of the pipe would never have had a clamp put on it.

The deal is the pipe can not be expanding but a hair or the clamp will not fit over the end of the pipe. I was able to open up the very end of the pipe s little but it needs to be expanded further into the pipe, like about 2 inches. Real pain in the *** that should not be there. Expander makes sense. I will look into it.

Replaced that gasket a couple weeks ago. I only cussed a little, but used very bad words.
Get the exhaust pipe expander; less than $10. The crossover does not need to be expanded too much and the clamp WILL fit. Slide the expander in about 1 inch. Took me twice to get it open enough, for the gasket to go in without distorting it. I used some channel locks to open the clamp enough to slide on. My gasket is protruding about 1/8". Install the crossover and the crossover hanger without the slip-on. Get all that tightened up then install the slip-on. I did have to use a hammer handle between the swingarm and crossover (near the outlet) to push the crossover down to be able to slide on the slip-on. I also used the expander on the slip-on to make that easier. Don't forget a little anti-seize, before installing the slip-on.
Don't feed the MOCO unnecessary money. You can do this!!
