Default Black helmet - hotter than lighter color or Matt Black

Tried to do a search and only found helmets for sale, lol

Getting ready to buy a new helmet... have heard that a Matt Black helmet is cooler than a Gloss black helmet???? Urban legend OR Real Life????

Hoping someone out there has some real life experence - I have been on Harley's since 1996 Only had Gloss Black but willing to listen and learn

I really don’t think it matters much at all. You’ll be moving so air will be flowing over it anyway. Plus, there’s a layer of foam and fabric between your head and the outer shell so that will act as insulation to keep those “surface temps” off of your head.

Not supposed to be any difference in color, even if helmet is chrome.

Wife and I have gloss Black helmets and ride mostly wearing Black clothes.
Not much difference there either.

I tried a lighter color helmet once. I couldn't tell if it was any cooler.

Prove it to yourself!

Put a black and white helmet in the sun for a couple hours. You won't be able to keep your hand on the black one after sitting in the sun so I would assume that same extreme heat will be transferred to the interior of helmet.

styrofoam = insulation.

i think buying a better brand with more air flow is key, and taking off the OEM Ultra windshield and going to a FLHX wind shield when in town/traffic.

Black absorbs more light and will create more heat. As someone said previously, put a black helmet side by side with a white one in the sun and you'll feel the difference. But, going down the road at 50mph, I'll doubt you'll feel the difference.

The last three helmets I have purchased have all been WHITE.

Much cooler and they really stand out night and day.

I wear white because it is cooler and motorist notice it more than they do darker colors.
