4.3 to 6.5 Upgrade
I posted over in audio but a stupid question for the audiophile guys over there so asking it here too. I have an Ultra Classic with the 4.3. I have a Garmin for nav. I have the CB module for CB. I always wear a modular helmet plugged in so speakers aren't important. Is there any compelling reason I'd want to upgrade ... yet? WHIM, Sirius, anything? Thanks.

What are your end goals?
I've done it all, if you want a single solution that you can control without taking your hands off the bars, the 6.5 is the best. I ran this with the XM module on my 17 RGU, not very loud but good enough at 70 and below. GPS was ok but in really rural areas I had routing issues. Costly to update the maps ($150 I think a year). Not cheap to run wireless/bluetooth headsets.
If you want a GPS that works and won't route you down dirt roads, on and off the freeway, or in circles, keep the Garmin You can use wireles/bluetooth headsets and your smartphone easily.
Currently running my phone with Google Maps (testing Waze, looks promising) and UClear headsets but considering going back to a Garmin. I think with some practice I can use voice commands to do what I need, still working the kinks out of that.
From what I can gather, the Sirrus/XM and wireless are your only benefits. Is that worth $700 (average used) $1500 (new) to you?

There are 2 things at least the 4.3 can't do. 1 is the Whim and the other is XM. Now I understand that the Whim is not necessarily ready for prime time and if you use it, XM capability is diminished. But if I want either or any upgrades incarnation for either it won't be anything I could consider with the 4.3. I would like to cut the cord. I think I'd keep the Garmin. If not I'd sell it.
