Default ABS vs Non-ABS Pros and Cons

Why should I or shouldn’t I get a bike with ABS?

Looking at a 2016 RG without ABS.

I can't even think of a witty way to put this but it's a no-brainer go for the ABS.

After having ABS I am not sure I would want to ride without it. Seems silly after riding all these years without it but the bike stops so much easier with it.

If you are a talented rider, skilled, totally alert and always lucky it does not matter.

For those of us that appreciate the technical advances that have spilled over into bikes like ABS and Linked Braking it is a no brainer.

I have never had to reply on it on my last two bikes. But back with our 2010 Ultra it saved my neck twice. Once on ice that had frozen on the roadway from a sprinkler system spraying too far at a business, and once in rain having to get stopped fast for a quick red light. Once you experience it you go WOW thank God I had that.

Well, the way I see it, a large cause of accidents on bikes is the rider grabbing a **** load of front brake in a panic, ABS eliminates that risk. I won't ride without it anymore.

I find it hard to believe that the MoCo doesn't include it as standard equipment. Go figure.

^^This. I always put aggressive pads on my bikes. If I need to panic stop, I want it to PANIC stop. I've locked up the front tire on my bikes more than once. Every time I've also let out enough to get her going again without loosing it. I'm no pro rider by any measure, but I've never had the front wash out on me on the street. That being said, if I have the option, I'll always go for ABS. Its saved my bacon more than once, especially on wet roads or curves with marbles. ABS is a wonderful thing.

I wasn’t so sure about ABS when I got it. 39 years on the street, 23 different motorcycles...yeah, I’m good without ABS right?

No! ABS and the linked brakes are spectacular. I had a small “panic stop” and the bike stopped in about 1/2 the distance I was thinking it would! Get it, and you’ll be a believer when “that day” comes around.

It depends on the model.
Quite a few of them, it is standard equipment.

In the OP's case, it is an option on the regular Road Glide.
But it is standard equipment on the Road Glide Special.

ABS does raise the cost of the bike, so that is why they have models without it.

There are those that just don't need/want some of those extra cost options.
