Default Need a new FOB/Key...

I recently bought a 2016 Ultra Classic and it only has one key, one FOB. I have the FOB serial number, but no number for the key...

I would like to get a spare key & FOB.

I understand the FOB is around $50 and the dealer needs to mate it to the (ECM, BCM, TSSM, some "M"). I have no idea what I need to get a second key, other than the key number, which I don't have.

I am going to check with a couple dealers this week... would like to go in with some knowledge on the subject, so I'll know if I'm getting BS'd....

Can anyone who has done this share the procedure and costs....?

Thanks in advance...

Locksmith can cut a barrel key. Key number is under the rubber cover on the key. Cover slides up.

No experience with the replacement fob.

Keys come in a pair, the number is under the plastic cover on your existing key. Takes about 2 weeks. For the FOB, mine was 50$ and they didn't charge anything for the programming. They had the FOB's in stock, took them 5 minutes.

On my 2018 RGU they ordered the combined key and fob for me with just the VIN.

Same here - my used bike came with one key / fob. Went to the dealer for a spare setup and showed my registration as proof of ownership. With the VIN they can look up the key code to order a new barrel key from HD. It took a couple of weeks. My dealer keeps the fobs in stock and programmed to the bike on site. Although I was not so lucky and had to pay labor for programming (which I thought was bull$hit but whatever). Plus, there's a really cool skull key in the P&A catalog that I couldn't resist even if it was a little pricey... Lol.

The dealer also erased the missing fob from the bike, so that's something else to be aware of in case it's still out there somewhere. And don't forget to reprogram your PIN (to start the bike without the fob); the procedure is in the owner's manual and can be done as long as you have a working fob.

I found and bought a FOB off eBay for only $25, but when I went to the dealer to get it programmed to work with my bike, they wanted $55 just to do the programming. I thought that was a bit much. If they were including the cost of another FOB, that would be another story. Guess I'll have to check again. A friend just went to a locksmith, and had a barrel key made for her Heritage for only $10, but it doesn't have the fancy cover on it. The way I see it, as long as it works, I don't care if it's got that cover on it or not.

Thanks all for the info/experience.... pretty much what I figured I'd be up against...

I am going to go to the dealer and ask for the price to order a key & FOB from them... gonna try to get them to program the FOB for free...

If not, there are several dealers in the area.... I should be able to find one to agree to that...

If not, might be time to order the Daytona Twin Scan 4, and order the FOB/Key online...

Gonna get a Twin Scan 4 eventually... it'll help with ABS brake fluid changes, and can do numerous other stuff like program spots to stay on with high-beams, and add FOBs to the security.... I'd rather put $55 towards it, than give a dealer $55 to add a FOB I bought from them!
