Default Extended oil changes

Is anyone doing extended oil changes? For instance 10k on motor oil, 20k and 20k on primary and tranny? Using Amsoil or Mobil 1? Just wondering if any one actually did it and has any results good or bad. Thanks. Harley says 5 15 and 20 with syn 3. Amsoil say 10 on the oil, 10 on the primary and 20 on the tranny if using their engine oil, primary and transmission fluid. Using the 20/50 in all three holes they say 10/30/20.

No matter what Amsoil says, if you go to intervals beyond what is in your owner’s manual kiss your warranty bye bye. I’m running Amsoil, F+, BelRay at 5/10/10. My bike seems happy. At 5K the motor oil is pretty dark, so I can’t imagine going another 5K.

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. A company can't deny your warranty claim unless they can prove that what you did caused the failure. I'm not saying extended oil change intervals in an air cooled engine is a good idea but they can't deny your claim just because you extended your oil change interval.

Good luck with that. If you don’t follow the recommended service intervals, HD will deny your claim. Then you can take them to court. After thousands of dollars, and a few years....maybe the court will make a decision in your favor. But, the act has to do with not using the manufacturer’s parts, not following recommended service intervals.

Edit: more info on the MM Act:

Tie-In Sales" Provisions
Generally, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty. The following are examples of prohibited tie-in sales provisions:

- In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty.

While you cannot use a tie-in sales provision, your warranty need not cover use of replacement parts, repairs, or maintenance that is inappropriate for your product. The following is an example of a permissible provision that excludes coverage of such things:
- While necessary maintenance or repairs on your AudioMundo Stereo System can be performed by any company, we recommend that you use only authorized AudioMundo dealers. Improper or incorrectly performed maintenance or repair voids this warranty.

My manual says 5k on oil, 10k on primary and 20k on trans. I’m just at 10k now plan on doing the trans and primary now since they take same kind of oil.

Wait a second...just what in the hell is this oil stuff you’re talking about. Plus you’re saying I have to change it? I’ve spent enough money on this bike, I’m not putting another cent in it. That includes gas too!!

I do extend if on a tour and will go 6-8k on the engine if I cannot find a place to change it.

Else, 5k engine and tranny/primary 1x per year when going into winter storage (10kish)

If you’re using full Syn oil ,sure you can go to 10000 miles. For most part we throw away good oil at 5000 miles. I’m pretty sure I read here a member sent oil to black stone at 5000, then another sent it at 7500 and it both had still plenty of life left in it... I change all 3 holes each year since I don’t ride much for the last 3 years.

I ran Syn3 to 10,000 on My 2014.At one time HD Syn3 site said 10k was ok.In a few months there was no such statement.I am sure that Dealers would have complained if 10k was advertised.Put 35,000 mile on that bike before trade and it ran like a dream.

You can do 7k+ on engine oil with ease full synthetic. Same can be said about primary. I use M1 90w140 in gearbox and plan on changing every 25k. Most people never change the gear old on there manual transmission gear boxes or rear ends even past 100k. Long gone are the 3k/3 month oil company scams of the past. Not so long ago conventional oil change recommendations at dealerships were 7500 miles and with modern oils they are back their again. My Honda HRV under my driving conditions gets changed every 7500-8000 miles.
