I'm sure its fine to run oil for longer but personally its just a peace of mind thing; so i'm just planning on sticking with the factory recommendations as a maximum service interval.

I change all three holes every 5k. Overkill? Maybe. But I have had great peace of mind over the last 4 years and crazy amount of miles with no issues.

I'm the one that sent my oil out to Blackstone at 7500 miles. And the oil was dirt cheap Mobil 15-50 for $22 for 5 quarts. To those that ask why, I had just changed oil and had 2000 miles on the oil when I went on a 5000 mile road trip. Didn't feel the need to change the oil out at 2000 miles. UOA came back with plenty of life left and the motor ran solid and the cylinders and pistons looked new at 119,000 when I pulled it down for a 107 bore and pistons. Plenty of my miles were in triple digits in stop and go traffic. I typically change around 5k give or take a thousand and others make me laugh when they are so **** about changing their oil within miles of the "recommended interval", "OK, but what I'm doing works great for me". I do like to change my primary oil at the same time because it does look dirty with clutch debris. Tranny 25-30k, almost never hear of any tranny failures with the bullet proof cruise drive. Just ride!

I'll tell you what man, I have done a lot of work on my 07 and there was a lot of metal in the primary pretty much always. The engine a lot less but occasionally I would see metal shavings in the oil. I change at the recommended interval. There are plenty of transmission bearing failures on this forum too. You got a good one where everything wore well, others do too, and others not so much. High temp stop and go traffic destroys oil. I'm not an excessive oil change kind of guy but I firmly believe the engineers have done their homework and change at the recommended intervals. I'm also a guy very in tune with what my motor is doing and it always seems to me the top end gets a little noisier as the oil viscosity starts to break down and gets dirty near the end of service life.

I like changing my oil, and if I do the engine, the other two are easier to do - in my opinion.

Secondly - I've had my motor blow up twice after bringing it to a random HD dealership for light work.

The "express lane" has never been very express for me. I've tried, and usually, it is +2 hours. I thought it is next in line and supposed to be less than an hour.

Consider this. You're on a 10+ day trip... "Oh $hi+, the oil is way over..."
Go to a dealership.
Buy oil & filter, and primary and trans oil.
Go to WalMart or ----- and get a couple of tin [disposible] turkey pans.
Find a happy place. Let motorcycle cool / drain oil / swap filter. Dispose of oil and turkey pans at an environmentally sound facility.

Ride on.

If you have a car built after 1996 you can easily go over 3500 miles. The enemies to oil viability are the byproducts of combustion mainy, hydrocarbons. In modern day cars, the combustion is so complete and the cylinders are so well sealed due to tighter tolerances that very few of these byproducts end up in the oil. In bikes, (particularly air cooled bikes) the tolerances are much looser to compensate for expansion. Combine that with aftermarket fuel mapping, vieds etc and there's no way I'm going over 3,500.

I do the same thing, all 3 holes every 5k, Costs me 100$ for fluids, filter and o-rings, takes me an hour or so in the garage. I agree its likely over kill, but im there, it takes almost no extra effort to drain other two, while draining the oil and getting that effin filter off without making a mess.

Considering i do my own maintenance, even changing all 3 fluids every 5k is still a lot cheaper then paying HD to change just the oil.

If you do an extended oil change I would change the filter at 5,000 miles.
