Extended oil changes
#53
I'm the one that sent my oil out to Blackstone at 7500 miles. And the oil was dirt cheap Mobil 15-50 for $22 for 5 quarts. To those that ask why, I had just changed oil and had 2000 miles on the oil when I went on a 5000 mile road trip. Didn't feel the need to change the oil out at 2000 miles. UOA came back with plenty of life left and the motor ran solid and the cylinders and pistons looked new at 119,000 when I pulled it down for a 107 bore and pistons. Plenty of my miles were in triple digits in stop and go traffic. I typically change around 5k give or take a thousand and others make me laugh when they are so **** about changing their oil within miles of the "recommended interval", "OK, but what I'm doing works great for me". I do like to change my primary oil at the same time because it does look dirty with clutch debris. Tranny 25-30k, almost never hear of any tranny failures with the bullet proof cruise drive. Just ride!

I like changing my oil, and if I do the engine, the other two are easier to do - in my opinion.
Secondly - I've had my motor blow up twice after bringing it to a random HD dealership for light work.
The "express lane" has never been very express for me. I've tried, and usually, it is +2 hours. I thought it is next in line and supposed to be less than an hour.
Consider this. You're on a 10+ day trip... "Oh $hi+, the oil is way over..."
Go to a dealership.
Buy oil & filter, and primary and trans oil.
Go to WalMart or ----- and get a couple of tin [disposible] turkey pans.
Find a happy place. Let motorcycle cool / drain oil / swap filter. Dispose of oil and turkey pans at an environmentally sound facility.
Ride on.

I agree with Jamesroadking. We buy a 20000 to 40000 thousand dollar toy and then worry about saving money on an oil change. Come on guys! Change your oil and buy good oil. I wouldn't run my car over 3500 let alone my Harley. Every Harley I've owned the top end starts getting noisy at about 3500 miles.

I do the same thing, all 3 holes every 5k, Costs me 100$ for fluids, filter and o-rings, takes me an hour or so in the garage. I agree its likely over kill, but im there, it takes almost no extra effort to drain other two, while draining the oil and getting that effin filter off without making a mess.
Considering i do my own maintenance, even changing all 3 fluids every 5k is still a lot cheaper then paying HD to change just the oil.
