Default Horn quits working

This one is really odd. If I sound the horn for more than about 3 seconds then it quits until I restart the bike. I have never taken it off to check for water in the horn so maybe time for a new one.

Interesting - when did this start to happen? What happens if you blow for just one second, stop and blow again. Does it work.

I might check the connection to see if there is some obstruction - maybe a little rust.

Let us know what you discover and how it is resolved.

Horn or horn relay; relay if turning off resets quickly, horn if maybe longer period delay til working, but just likely guesses. Put a meter on horn to see if voltage there or not, nothing then relay.

Unfortunately, the canbus controls the horn- no more simple relay. The BCM recognizes the request to activate the horn, when you press the switch on the left switch pack. It then applies the proper power to the horn, but for a limited time. It's supposed to reset when you release the switch, and if it doesn't, then a new BCM may be warranted.

Without a CanBus diagnostic tool, it will be difficult to determine if the switch, and it’s encoded signal to the ECU, then to the BCU is ok. So, using a schematic figure out which wire goes from the BCU to the horn. Check voltage at the BCU when pushing the button. If it’s OK, check at the horn. If it’s still OK, then it’s the horn. If the voltage goes away at the BCU, then other than the switch...it’s probably the BCU. Especially if it needs to be power cycled.

Or...don’t blow the horn for 3 seconds.

Thanks so much, I will check the voltage at each point. I haven't checked for any codes yet. Yeah if you just tap it off and on it works fine. I hope it's not he BCU.

Ok checked the codes and found a B2106 L4 Output Open, that code has been on my bike every time I check. Also a B2129 E4 Horn output overloaded. So maybe I pressed the button to long or the horn is bad. I found the Softail Electrical Dia manual online and hoping it't the same procedure.

So I have figured out the B2106 L4 Outout Open is Short to power in the circuit of auxiliary lamps, or opening the supply circuit of auxiliary lamp. I have LED passing lamp bulbs so I figure this is the cause. I will test my theory later.
