New WHIM and bad XM reception
Had a WHIM installed a few weeks ago and haven't ridden the bike much until now. I'm finding that my XM reception is shot, and it's always been great. I know the XM antenna had to be relocated during the WHIM install. Is it more likely the new antenna placement or the antenna itself. I've had one of these antennas go bad in the car before, so I know it can happen.

I would pull the fairing and see where they moved the antenna. Most likely the location. It will work through fiberglass no problem but not well if they hid it under something metal.
My guess is location unless they damaged the cable.
Good luck and keep us posted.

My XM is very sensitive to bridges and trees. Much more than the one in my car.

Yeah that is what I have seen posted by others. But unless you actually saw and verified it I would take a look. If it is in the right location then inspect the cable well. As posted above you may also consider moving it outside the fairing.

Problem seems to be resolved. Pretty much all of you guys were dead on.
Moving the antenna to the top of the inner fairing next to the vent got me instant improvement. I will say that its slightly less strong than it was before the WHIM, but I rode about 20 miles and it only dropped out a bit when I went under some overpasses. Shame on me for not reading the Harley Accessory guide before buying the WHIM. Not that it would have stopped me, but it clearly says the WHIM causes interference with the XM signal on 2014s and 2015s. I also had a problem I resolved with my WHIM Headset. Seemed like the left ear would cut out intermittently and I couldn't figure out why. Turns out the WHIM antenna the tech installed was sticking part way out of the fairing and pinched. Once that was fixed, my headset started working better too. This picture shows how the WHIM antenna was sticking out and pinched between the inner and outer fairing. Kind of sloppy work by the technician. Surprising because he's been pretty good. I'm not going to blow him up for this one mistake.
