Default valve stems

My 2017 Limited was new in Sept of last year. I enjoyed it as much as possible (about 3000 miles) before it had to be prepped for the Canadian winter months.
I tend to be a bit **** about tire pressures considering both tire wear and general safety. I noticed this bike did not retain pressures well. The bike was delivered with fairly long and skinny valve stems. If they were disturbed at all, you could hear air seeping around the base. My Dealer was great with the complaint - they remounted the tires after installing a much shorter fatter valve stem and since then, tire pressures are rock stable.
I hope other owners of new '17's haven't had the same problem, but if you do, check your stems.

Cheers
Rick

That is just plain strange!

Was this bike delivered to you direct from the factory?

Or were the wheels/tires worked on before you took delivery?

Just this past week, I installed new tires on my 2016 FLHTCU. As before, I used oem valve stems, obtained from the local HD dealer. Into stock wheels. Nice and tight. Never a hint of leak.

At first tire change I went with 90 degree valve stems to make checking pressure a lot easier.

I put it the FOBO TPMS when I installed new tires last year, and went with their metal t stems, much nicer to use. But the stems that came from HD on my (2014 Limited) bike sound more like the ones you got for replacements. Didn't have any leakage with those.

It was a new motorcycle that had been in the dealer's showroom for about a month before I bought it. The dealer's maintenance boss said that they had not seen the problem before.
When the bike is due for new rubber I'll be going with these

Some other members have posted good results with these stems.

I think those are the same stems I have, or very similar... I think I got mine from Cycle Gear, $18 for the pair, and they are 100% better for checking and filling compared to stock. You'll be very glad you did!

My wife's Road King still has the stock stems, and it's such a PITA! I have her stems ready to go in when we get her her tires replaced.

Angled stems should come stock on bikes... not an added accessory, as important as proper tire pressure is on bikes.
