Map Updates
Hey folks, winter sucks just sayin!
Anyway I'm sure there are threads about this already but I guess I'm being lazy so here is another one.
Does anyone actually buy map updates for the factory GPS?
I have a 2015 RGS and I'm not sure that it's worth the money.
When you purchase is it tied to the VIN somehow? Is there a place to maybe download the maps for lets say "less money"???
Just curious.....

I bought an update last year for my 2014 'TK and it's a rip-off. $150-US or so dollars and I saw NO changes in my area. Even a freeway addition that had been in over 5 years was not in the map set. Maybe the big changes in the maps are in Romania...
My vote is to save your money...The update is a POS...

I have gps in both cars and on my bike. In all cases, I mount my phone and use Waze or Google Maps. So much more user friendly and accurate. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the old Garmin style gps units are ancient tech. Last summer I decided to try the unit on my bike. I put in an address for an old buddy I was going to visit. I’m supposed to have 2016 maps, but his 10 year old subdivision didn’t exist on the bike gps. After messing around for 10 minutes, I threw the quick disconnect mount on my bars, mounted the phone and in less than a minute had the directions up and running on Waze. US$150 for map upgrades is so far beyond ridiculous that it is almost hard to fathom. I would much prefer that we could connect to these radios using Apple Play or google........so much more functionality and ease of use. Also “free” map upgrades....just sayin’

I do not. It is not that I am cheap. The price is a scam for what you get. It is the same with my cars.
The maps in my 2017 are close enough. No madder where I go in this country I have a pretty good idea where I am going anyway so GPS is not a big life requirement.
I guess in today's world many can't kind their way to work with out the GPS.

True story, society has become dependant on technology.
I don't use mine often, only when travelling maybe a couple of times a year but I do like to keep things updated and current.
I think I'll keep my money on this one unless I can find the file and download it somewhere.
Here's what gets me, you buy a $100 gps at wal mart and you get free map updates for life! You buy a $30,000 $40,000 $50,000 bike with gps and you don't get ****!

With a CVO you get three map updates in a five year period, I have a 2016 CVO Street Glide and just used my second update, I haven't traveled with it yet as its still winter in Ohio, but after the first update, I really didn't see any difference. I would have hated to spend $150.00 on that, (but I guess I already did when I purchased the bike) I agree your phone is a better GPS then what comes on the bike. I do like the route planning using "MyRoute-App" and downloading a route that you planed out into the Boom. IMO
