Default Scored cam plate

I've posted engine rattling sound recently,
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/new-r...ing-sound.html
And I found one of screaming eagle tappet was faild, the roller doesn't spin smoothly, feels like some part inside the tappet was broken....

I changed tappets with S&S premium ones, but ticking sound happened again....

After I disassembled the cam cover and cam plate, found that the
inner side of gerotor and surface of cam plate is scored.

One of my acquaintance says that in case of damage of cam plate surface, overall part of the engine should be disassmbled and washed out, Small debris can make more problem further...also cam plate and oil pump should be changed by new one.

But my mechanic says fallen pieces from damaged tappet might make these scoring, but they will be filtered in oil filter so I don't need to worry about damage of other areas of engine, and he suggested me to change the pump with the drag specialty oil pump which have additional plate over the gerotor, and he says this additional plate covers the damaged surface of cam plate so I don't need to change the cam plate. (Drag PN. 0932-0088)

Will this work?
Does anyone have similar experience?

The scored surface of cam plate where meets the gerotor of oil pump.

Inner surface of the pump is slightly worn...

Drag specialty oil pump.

If it were me, I would replace the pump AND the cam plate. I would also inspect the cam lobes very closely for any previous damage from the failed lifter and replace cams if damage found. With about 28k on the bike I would also replace the cam chain tensioner while I was in there. I would also consider flushing as much as the oil passages as I could get to. I know it really sucks, but it's better to do it right the first time to keep from tearing back into it again later (don't ask). Good luck.

I'm chasing the same noise you experienced at first. Changed out stock lifters for some cheapo's ($50 for 4) and put adjustable quickie type pushrods in at same time. Noise is back, so putting in the S&S premiums (should've done it first time!) and hoping that alleviates the problem. Fingers crossed.

Thank you for your kind reply! Yukon42
I looked the cam lobes very closely and touch and rub all the surfaces with finger, fortunately, they are really OK.
