Changing Battery on 2015 FLHTK
I am installing a new battery on my 2015 FLHTK. The Service Manual says on page 1-55, point 8, in the Disconnect and Removal section to "disarm security system".
My motorcycle has the factory security system that comes standard on the bike.
The Manual does not state how to disarm the security system. A search on this web board says turn the ignition switch to on, then off an then remove the main fuse under the side cover.
Has anyone here changed their own battery? And is this step correct? This seems to apply when there is a siren on the bike security system. Does the standard security system on this bike come with siren?
I had a 2010 FLHTK and when I changed the battery in that bike I just moved the ecm, etc from the top of the battery, disconnected the hot and ground connections, put in the new battery, reconnected everything and was good to go.
Does this step (disarm the security system) apply to the standard security system, and if so, how do I do it?
Thanks in advance.

I changed the battery on my 2014 FLHTK last summer. I had added the siren to my security system. To be honest I had forgotten all about the security when it was time to change batteries. I did this in my garage and when I removed the negative cable on the old battery it started screaming at me. All I had left was 1 bolt then it was lift out the old and put in the new so I let it go on screaming. Once a connection was made to both post it stopped.
I do know the way I did it was technically wrong and there is some way to disable the siren but this was easiest for me. One observation I did make when it was over was not a single person in my neighborhood came to investigate the alarm so what good is it really.

Before you begin,,, remove left side cover , (fuse box area)....
So,
1. With Fob present... Turn ignition ON
2. Wait for security system to Disable .
3. Turn ignition OFF
4. Pull Maxi fuse... (before security system Enables),, you have approx 5 seconds...
5. When finished battery work,, Install maxi fuse ,, start as normal...

Chopper you are right,, but,, your instructions could get a first timer in a bit of a panic , as the alarm may activate when maxi fuse is pulled...

That's odd. On my 2016 Road glide special, both while installing a new Yuasa battery (just for the higher amps) and when installing an stereo amp, I just disconnected and reconnected. Didn’t do anything else, and everything still works as expected, security system included.

Thanks for all the helpful replies.
I do not have a siren on my security system. It is purely stock.
As suggested, rather than pulling the main fuse, I put the alarm in transport mode. It worked perfectly and the whole battery change process took less than one hour from start to finish.
I am thinking that the procedure detailed in the shop manual is more relevant if you have the siren attached as part of the security system.
I appreciate all the prompt attention to my question.
