The way I roll, or should I say stop, is clutch in, right foot on the brake left foot down, right hand turns the ignition off. I always leave it in 1st gear. Just a habit so it doesn’t roll on me, I don’t leave things on and I’m probably gonna switch it over to lock anyway.

 

I just pop the clutch with it in first gear. Kills the engine every time.

Yeap done that. It is pretty funny if you have a new rider that is still getting familiar with his machine and only using the ignition switch to hit his kill switch after he parks his bike. That's the anarchist in me acting up though...

 

I used the kill switch on the handle bar once. Now I can't get it started....

 

Back in my younger days riding sport bikes hitting the kill switch on your buddies bike was a never ending joke, rolling down the road or at a stop light.

I miss those days of being young, reckless and idiot's.

Nope, in 37 years of riding all sorts of street bikes I've had ignitions in many locations. Currently in my garage is my oldest sons softail where it's on the left under the tank with the coil, the wife's old sporty, also low and on the left but a little further forward, her Freewheeler is on the tank, my other sons FZ-09 its on top of the triple tree near near his riser clamp. I ride and work on all of them and a number of other peoples bikes.

My original point was meant to put some perspective on the issue. The kill switch works fine, use it if you like, but the idea that it is required or as one poster has been mislead to believe that it somehow saves the ECM or ignition from voltage spike is just pure BS.

Now who parks in neutral and who leaves it in gear?

 

I tried mine once, the day I bought the bike, just to make sure it worked, Never used it since.
