Default 2014 street glide front tire - shimmy

hey folks i know i can get many opinions on this one ,

heres the deal I'm going to talk in kilometres too , at 110- 115 km/h bike i smooth as glass , touch up to 120 km/h ( approx 75 miles an hour) get a front end shimmy .

of course just came back from a bike trip with lots of interstate running so much more noticed , wouldn't usually be at those speeds around home

tire pressure is normal
brand new wheel bearings

i have heard from some indy that the front tires on FLHx they see cupping and issues. won't ask dealer as usual they have " never heard of it "

I'm thinking of putting a new tire on my bike has 12,000 kms on it approx 7500 miles

thanks folks

i would pull all weights off front tire, add correct amount of ride on, air tire up to correct sidewall max pressure for a cold tire. Check steering head bearings gor correct fall awsy per new specs

if all was within spec and i still had a shimmy at that speed, i would chalk it up to the batwing design of the front fairing and understand ir will be present when traveling at thoses speeds.

if you front tire is not out of balance or steering head bearings are loose, its the batwing.

My 14 SGS has had the high speed(70+) shimmy or wobble while going into sweepers since new. It's done it with the stock 18" front and with the 21" and is doing it with the 26" I just put on, no better or worse on any of the setups. Bearings front and rear and rubber on all three setups along with steering head bearing and torque specs all were checked and were good. I've decided it's the Batwing as bigskyroadglide has stated. May not happen to all batwings but definitely is a problem for some.

I'm on the other side of the fence from your issues. 110 mph smooth as glass. Been across the country on my 14 sg with no issues. In sweeping turns at 80 mph still no issues. I'd double check the neck bearing and rear arm bushings.

Original tires on my 14 SGS went 21k but they were cupped pretty bad. Still had tread left but couldn't tolerate the whining. No shimmying though.

I'm at 13k on my 14 SGS smooth as fast as I'm willing to go. I run tires on high side of pressure, even wear so far.

Benn 100 mph many times. Never a shimmy.

Have the indy do an extra careful wheel balance. Hopefully they have a dynamic balancer that spins the wheel.
