Want louder pipes without breaking the bank.
I know you got to pay to play and especially with a Harley. I bought this 16 RGU and I love it. Then came $1500 licensing fees, then $2000 for my roof, then a tree feel in my yard last night and crushed my workshop so now $1500 deductible on home insurance. I know I know, cue the violins.
So to the point. I bought some 3.5" TAB performance mufflers because they were an older style and we're cheap. Problem is that aren't much louder than stock. They told me they were designed for the older bikes that didn't have the cat in the head pipe which is why they are so quiet. I asked about taking out the baffle which is very simple but they said I could blue the pipes if I do that with the cat still there and without a tuner.
Anyone run straight pipes with the cat and/or without a tuner? Good or Bad? Torque loss? I'm not going to be able to justify the $ on mods this year so it's either get it where I want soundwise by removing baffles or deal with a goldwing sounding bike till next year.

Go to Direct Cycles and get some Rush 4" mufflers, if they ever turn they will replace. They sound good and make good power. If you still have the baffle then contact Rush Racing and ask what size baffles you need, I'm pretty sure they will tell you a 2.5" on the right side and a 3" on the left.

Take the Cats out yourself. Best idea is wait till you can buy what you want. That gives you time to check things out. It beats spending a bunch of money on a great bike and then buy some used crap that degrades the bike. It won't have a big impact on you to wait. The only one making fun of your pipes is you.

Drill out the baffles in your stock mufflers with a 3" hole saw from the rear opening. Takes about five minutes or so per muffler (the right side is harder due to the baffle being larger inside than the 3" hole - you need to wedge it out). The cost is free if you have the bi-metal hole saw for your drill. You can do this mod with the mufflers on the bike. Easy.
