Whole story is bearing changed at tire change for preventive maintenance, 3,900 miles later, it's shot. Have to say it's the first one I've had go but pretty crappy at that mileage, should have left the originals in with 21,000 miles on them and working just fine.

crappy bearings and a lousy install. if these bearings are not installed correctly with the correct tools they will have a short life. i had my front go bad after only 2500 miles and then the dealer installed the new bearings incorrectly. no faith in anything the dealers do any longer and hd just wants to make money with no thought to their customers.

That looks like a mechanically induced catastrophic failure... looks like something hit (and broke) the seal.

I checked the bearing over when I pulled it out, no sign of any damage anywhere

Any chance you could get a pic of the seal after the grease is cleaned off? Or is that what you mean by "no damage"?

This "wheel bearing" issue is becoming a real expensive lesson for the bean counters in Milwaukee...
