Default Dealer download, Stage 1

I've been reading about these Stage 1 mods. I have a question about the dealer download, after your addition of new pipes and high flow air cleaner.

When Harley first started with this dealer download, it was basically a change in the ignition timing, as I recall. It didn't change the air/fuel ratio at all.

Has the dealer download changed since then?

Whatever download the dealer does, it still has to remain EPA compliant.

The general consensus is, it is just not worth going that route.

If it makes you feel good....let them do it. But it adds very little to performance. If you want to feel a difference, let a good tuner do his thing, and then you will notice an across the board difference. Idle, mid-range and WFO. I think the stage 1 raises the rev limiter a little and remaps the timing.

I agree with Beak it doesn't do much for performance. It will prevent your slipons from changing color from the lean condition.

Has anyone done a comparison as to what percentage the fuel is increased across the board from the stock harley tune to something dynojet offers in their advanced stock tune / vance and hines / fuelmoto.
I know fuel is added to add performance but additional fuel is included with the charge to decrease decell pop and more importantly combustion chamber cooling

As for VH fp3, i doubt its just fuel being added. I tried the xied route originally with my stage 1 mods which is just fuel on top of hd tune and it pinged like a mthrfkr. Fp3 no ping and get over 40mpg

When I roll on the throttle hard, my STOCK 2015 pings like crazy.

Do I want to spend $1000+ to correct it? Not right now.

Neither the Harley Street Tuner nor the download change fuel at all. It's primarily about timing. As for the FP3, I've had 6 of them on 6 different bikes. GREAT product, will be putting one on my new TriGlide Thursday when the mailman gets here. As for $1000??????? I've never paid more than $339 for an FP3 and it's VERY user friendly. Lots easier to use than a Power Vision IMHO.

I'm glad this just came up.I'm taking delivery of a new A/C today, and I kinda want to throw it on these days off.Gonna be riding to SLC for the wknd-250 mi.Should I waste the $150 for the dealer Stage 1 D/L,or does anyone think I could get away with running it as is while I wait for/order a tuner?I realize these bikes are lean from the MoCo,but I'm at 5400ft.and am wondering if thats enough compensation for the lean condition temporarily.
