Fob issues
I just got back from Run For The Wall. Great ride as always. But we had some security system issues, mostly with '15 Ultras. Sitting in the platoons, time to start, and bikes are asking for the pin number to start. Not every time. Leaving Junction City Kansas we had four of them in my platoon. One bike cleared before we rolled but three of us, including me, had to wait to start until everyone else was gone. I'm talking about 300+ bikes. Mine had also done it at a fuel stop. After that I just started using the kill switch and leaving the ignition switch on at fuel stops. Funny thing is after Junction City I didn't hear of this happening again. We lost and gained riders as we went across so maybe it was just one particular fob.

This is not a new or unusual issue. The issue is caused by electromagnetic interference from other fobs, mobile phones or other electronic devices.

If the bike isn't starting due to a security or FOB interference, you will see the message in the odometer area "Enter PIN".
Enter the PIN and the bike will bypass the security system completely and allow you to start it.
While at home in your driveway or garage, test this out.
Set your FOB down 10 to 15 feet away from the bike.
Go back to the bike and turn on the ignition and run switch.
You'll see that enter FOB message. Enter your code, and the bike will come to life and allow you to start it.
Nothing will interfere to block starting at this point, since security is bypassed.

www.rftw.usa Great group - rode this three times 2010-2012 Central route
I can pass on what I learned from a good friend at Sturgis that had this happen to him.. He put in his code and got it going - stopped at the local HD and was told that often IF you park too close to something as described above - He was parked next to a bank - this can interfere with the FOB? In your case - it sounds like someone or something in the pack was doing this - because after they left - you seem to be able to start? IF This happens again,,, try 'pushing' your back several yards away and see if that helps.. This is what my friend was told in Sturgis IF you can not remember your code. I do understand the 'time' thing with RFTW - often you are given a 5 min warning other times maybe not? if you practice that code movement - it can be done pretty fast.

I used the link above and found this? Interesting. I have often kept my Fob in my tour pack in the rear bag holder? Must have been at least 3" away?
◾Do not ride with the fob stored in a metal case or with the fob closer than 76 mm (3.0 in) to a mobile phone, display or other electronic device. Any electromagnetic interference may prevent the fob from disarming the system.
