I hate the thought of carrying gas and I live out west where gas can be SCARCE, but ya' know what, with the range on the Limited and a 6 gallon tank it's plenty. I always fill up when I see it 'cause you never know when the next pump will show up.
I sometimes ride with friends that have little Honda's with REALLY limited range and that gets scary.
My advise is...fill often, fill it FULL and leave the gas can home...
US Route 6 in Nevada...
Tough place to break-down...

Like others, I tend to stop every 100 miles or so to stretch and fuel up, so I rarely have need for carrying extra fuel. However, it's a different story when running Iron Butt rides. I then tend to get at least 200 miles before refueling. Only time I came close to running out was when heading west on I-10 at 85mph for 180 miles from San Antonio to Sonora. Running that speed through elevation changes really sucks the fuel! Barely made it to the gas stop.

Ya, it's like "Welcome to Nevada, America's Outback"...Reno is a suburb of San Francisco and Las Vegas is a suburb of Los Angeles but the rest or the state...ya' pretty much need to be prepared. Wonderful and fabulous small to mid-size towns, but lots of real estate in between...
This is actually Utah, close to the Nevada border...
Looking west toward Nevada
My friend with a little Honda, Good thing it gets GREAT gas mileage!
