Default Missing fuel

OK, so I have read a few fuel related posts on this page and I know the poster doesn't get treated well, but here it goes.

I rode home from work a week ago from last Friday. I completed my normal routine of filling up at the gas station and then came home and parked the bike for about 10 days as I went on vacation with the family. I started the bike this morning and noticed that I was down about 1/8 of the tank. I rode my normal 103 miles to work and back, filled up again and tracked my numbers (103 miles traveled since last fill up, 3.4 gallons, 30 mpg). I usually average about 38 mpg with 2.5 gallons.

When I got home I checked the garage for signs of fuel on the floor or a break in and found nothing. Has anyone experienced this issue? Which hose, leaking port should I check first. I don't notice any abnormal smell of gas.

Thank you,
Todd

I would do a few more fuel runs instead of depending on one ride to average MPGs. Could just be a fluke. Was the gas cap fully tightened?

Check your oil for gas smell.

So you were down a gallon, you either didn't top it off or your bike is broken in and is using more gas.

Did you top it off? I notice that if I don't click several times, and rock the bike, it appears full through the cap. I can get another 1/2 - 3/4 gal in if i keep trying. (Seems better than my 2010 SG was,, not sure if they improved the vent system or not...)

I believe I was topped off. Bike didn't run between being topped off and being down 1/8th of a tank.

Both my Sportster and Road King do the same if they sit for extended length of time. Always down a couple miles to the gallon. I just blame it on evaporation.

I know when i parked my bike for the winter it sat for a few months, then id take it on a ride, then it would sit for a few more, then id take it on a ride. I did this all winter and noticed in the end that i had to fill up again way sooner than normal, which meant there was alot of gas evaporation.

I do notice an increase in MPG depending on who's gas I use. I seam to get better milage with BP.
They do up the Ethanol % in the winter. Maybe that evaporated?
