Always open. Rain usually just goes up the windshield. Buffering and turbulence is increased with it closed.

I went between open a closed in the interstate this weekend just to test out the difference. I noticed more buffeting closed, so it'll stay open. Haven't ridden it in the rain and tend not to.

Mine is always open. Just like my EITMS is always enabled.

Whether you leave it open or closed, ya need to pop it back and forth once and a while or it gets sticky and won't operate. Mine got sluggish and wouldn't work so I pulled the outer faring and clean/lubed and all is well.

It's really a simple device, it just likes to be massaged once and a while...LOL

Get in the habit of popping the switch for the driving lights too because it gets sticky for what ever reason. There are many posts of guys getting that switch replaced under warranty 'cause it sticks.

If it gets stuck, give it a shot of Kroil and it will be back in action in about 30 seconds...and will stay in action.

6k miles and have never closed it except to experiment. I definately prefer it open.

With recurve windshield I don't notice any difference with it open or closed.

The vent is designed to let the air go up and around you, so when you close it you get more air on you. This is a good thing when it's hot out, so next time it's hot out try closing the vent! you will get more air on you and keep you a little cooler
