You could get by that way, but, you do not have all the flexibility of the Power Vision.

To me, the PV is worth the extra cost.

I have a similar setup and run a power commander V, they nailed the MAP and it runs great.

I will add another benefit of the PV is the ability to tune multiple bikes. I have 2 separate licenses on mine and tuned both the VROD and my FLHTCU with it. Just had to swap cables for the older VROD.

I spend a lot of time in the Audio Forum and when someone comes in asking a question much like the OP did, a common reply is ----- What are your ultimate goals & future plans with this set-up?

Personally, I have no intentions of going further into my motor and the FP3 fit the bill just fine. I gave serious thought to the PV, but it was more than I needed. 300 bucks for the FP3 will be more than enough for my future uses.

Back to the OP's question if he 'needs' a tuner or not. My short answer is no, it's not 'needed.' But, you should WANT one. Buddy of mine has a 16 CVO he was leaving stock. I talked him into a FP3. After a call to V&H picking out a good map set, he's thrilled his bike runs so much better.

I don't think I've read a thread where someone wished they saved the money and didn't buy a tuner of some sort...

Rush exhaust, Arlen Ness AC and PV tuner. Bike runs "perfect". I have tunes for riding 1 or 2 up, riding in the mountains or in the flats. Very happy with my decision on PV.

PV is worth every penny and as mentioned often Jamie and everyone at Fuel Moto are top notch. The PV comes in handy for other things also. Checking and clearing DTC's, adjusting idle RPM the list goes on. The speedo on my 14 SG was off by 6 mph, I was able to use the PV to get it right on. No regrets here!!

There is one other thing to consider. If you ever decide to have your bike dyno tuned there is a good chance the guy dyno tuning is more familiar with dyno jet products. Not saying it can't be done with the FP3 but they like to tune with what there used to. I have used both and while I like them both I prefer the PV. It just does more

Another bonus of the PV is if you leave it on your bars you can set it up as gauges. Granted on my road glide the gauges are much more visible then on the tank of my Dyna, so having speed and tach on the bars is a big help there, but it's nice on the glide as well.

I have heard that since its a "Closed Loop" system that the computer will automatically adjust for these changes and there is no need to add a FM EFI tuner with a custom map. Opinions ?
EFI only adjusts so much before maxing out the trim tables. It assuming your sensors are fault and limits the possible damage. Fuel Moto has always done good by me. If you're done with mods the v&h tuner is enough but if you might go further go dynojet power vision with FM custom tune
