Shifter came completely off shaft
Running 70 down the highway and went to downshift as I came into town and found that my shifter linkage on the motor-side of the primary was completely disengaged from the spline. Nothing was broke, damaged or missing; just got loose and vibrated off the shaft. A little roadside wrenching in the supermarket parking lot got her all back together.
This was a factory connection that came loose. I put 65K on my '07 and never had this problem; nor have any of my riding buddies. I (and them) have had plenty of other items vibrate loose though. Gonna blue loctite all the hardware this weekend.

My wife on one of her first outing on her Sporty 1200 had the shifter linkage bolt (motor side) vibrate out and when we came to a turn the pedal dropped and landed on her highway bar. I carry a multi-tool for such things. The great part was that the bolt was still there and was able to do a roadside fix and get back to having a nice ride.
The cool thing was this is my wife's first bike and has just learned to ride she handled the situation like a pro she did not panic and just pulled over to stop and that was it. I ran over and fixed it and we left.

Interestingly! A few day's ago I started my 2015 Limited with 2000 miles up and attempted to put it into gear when the shifter fell off. I removed the shifter shaft and discovered the allen bolt was loose allowing the shaft was loose. The bolt had grooved the shaft splines. I removed the shifter's and turned the shaft upside down and reattached the shaft and bolt using blue Loctite, I should have used red Loctite as mentioned in an earlier post. It seems to me a very poor design. Thanks to a search I received a lot of good info.
