Default Handlebar install problem

After installing a set of 10" apes I have run into a problem. First issue is when plugging back in the throttle wires I have one wire with out a plug. Is this normal? Second is when I start the bike it goes directly to open throttle. As well the twist grip when you turn it twists without a problem but once the throttle is fully twisted it clicks and seems to go beyond with open and gets stuck. Any help on this? Do you think the twist mechanism is broken?

I just finished doing bars myself. I had the same single wire connector coming from the tbw, no connection. I just did the block connector depin and routed thru new bars and all is well. Must be optioned for another application, others may offer up more information. As for the throttle issue, did you get it seated properly in the new bars ? There's a notch that mates with the bars. Something for sure is out of whack. Might sound crazy but you did put the correct grip back on the TBW ?

Yea everything seated correctly because the twist acts like normal but then goes beyond the full throttle. Even when the bike is started it automatically revs to wide open.

i think it must be the mechanical part of the twist sensor that is messed up.

Could be one of the wires has dragged across a sharp edge inside the handle bar, and is grounding/creating a short. When I did my bars, I couldn't get the green clip, and the heated clip to cooperate, so I labeled, soldered, and heat shrunk everything.

I just can't figure out how the throttle tube continues to just spin. It acts like it should but doesn't have a stop and conotinues beyond wide open. Then get stuck there.

This is where a service manual would come in handy - wires are color coded - find color and trace back

agree with cut wire possibility

I feel your pain. I was able to ride my bike to the shop with codes and going into limp mode after my installation . For 10" bars the labor is 200 to 250 so worth it. The only reason I attempted it was one of the service writers told me it was $1850 for new handlebars I said hell with that I'll do it myself. Well after I did it in the bike was doing all kinds of crazy stuff you could've Fried an egg on my head. Of course for liability they have to redo the complete project the charge was two or 2 1/2 hours Labor. Whatever you do be careful it's not worth your life for a few extra dollars to get a tow truck.
