I am just shy of 35,000 miles on my '14. I have my used oil tested for wear metals at each oil change and my results have always shown there is nothing to worry about.

Is there a time period/mileage for swapping out the cam shoes. I know they wear down but not sure at what mileage they are usually done for.
PS. Thanks for all the replies.

No ..The hydraulic ones should be good for the life of the motor. The old ones were recommended to be inspected/replaced at 40,000

I haven't heard of any issues with the Rushmores regarding the parts listed by the OP.

Had 65K miles on my 2007 when I reluctantly traded her in for a 2015. NO problems with cam or tensioner or lifters. Did have to replace the compensator once. Was a great bike!

Bike 2009 flht
75,000 miles
Oil change every 3000 miles.

Pic showing secondary hydraulic tensioner wear down to metal piston insert..
As tensioner was worn down to metal insert, the chain from riding over the metal insert has taken a battering also ...
The primary tensioner was well worn , but not down to the metal insert as the secondary tensioner ...

HD have updated the hydraulic tensioner material since 2009, so that may be a positive ....

A buddy's 2014 cvo (approx 25K miles) just imploded a lifter. Chunks of lifter took out most of the cam related parts. Not running it hard at the time. Just came off the freeway (80 mph), rode about a mile off the freeway and it went. Waiting to hear if the MOCO will be replacing the engine due to extensive damage.

Yep. Lots of those Mexican-made-junk lifters fail every year. The MoCo would rather keep replacing engines than to admit that they made a mistake and do something to remedy it. Typical.

I put a set of S&S Premium lifters in mine. Potential problem(s) permanently solved!

It's a PITA to have to spend an extra $300 just to fix a well-known problem that these $26,000+ bikes have had for years, but hey, it's a MoCo product, it's just part of the "Harley Davidson Lifestyle".

But let me also say that even with it's warts and glitches, I wouldn't trade my '15 Limited for anything else on the road. She's a keeper!

Well I hope not. The stock Harley lifters were trash. Thanks to this forum I was able to catch before any damage was done. Only time will tell on the S&S but with their reputation I feel comfortable.

Huh? You hope not? If I replace my lifters w/ s&s I expect them to last and not have to worry about lifters again.

IMO, a set of S&S lifters is a permanent, once-and-for-all fix and that's it. No worries or regrets (or problems) since I put 'em in mine.

I also installed a set of their "Quickie" adjustable push rods and a set of Rockout shims in the rocker boxes just to silence the ticking and clattering valve train. No real increase in reliability or durability with these two items - but no more noise, either. To me, it was well worth it and money well spent.
