My '14 SGS has never had a clutch problem. Someone else had a problem and they took mine apart because of it. Could mine have failed, maybe or maybe not. Even on this forum where every failure is reported in great detail, there have been very few reports of actual clutch failure, before the recall or after.

And the '17's have had their problems despite the "greatest bike ever" crap. Go to the M8 forum and take a look. One post stated they wanted the MOCO to refund some money to them because they felt with all the problems (oil leaks, trans leaks, etc.) felt that they would hurt the '17's re-sale value. Good luck with that. How about a free wash towel instead. Guess not all '17 owners think its the best bike ever. Well then again, maybe there are some that feel the '14 - '16 Rushmore's are not the Best Bike Ever, but I do. Forty thousand happy miles

I'm in the "The Rushmores are the best bikes ever to come out of the MoCo" camp. If the M8's are as good or better is something that I'll never have any need to find out. No interest that motor, now or ever, and definitely no new H-D's in my future.

I'm perfectly happy with my '15 Limited and I bought it to keep & ride, so I couldn't give less of a f**k about resale value. My estate executor can worry about that BS when the time comes!

Regarding the guy that's concerned about the '17s problems hurting the resale value of his bike - I assume that nobody held a gun to his head and forced him to fork over all that cash just to be a beta-tester of a major new MoCo design, which has NEVER been a good idea and never will be.

His decision, his headaches. Simple as that.

I purchased 2017 Ultra in June have 5800 miles on it now with no problems. I have two friends, one purchased a 2017 Ultra has 6000 and change and just ran into clutch problem. Bike would stall when clutch was activated and would not start in gear. Happened 6 times. Bike would only start in neutral. Harley could not replicate problem made some adjustments and hoping it doesn't happen again. 2nd bike 2017 Road Glide low milage. Clutch failed. Clutch handle just flops around like there was nothing attached. Bike had to be towed. Its in for service. Let you know results when I find out.

Probably the clutch safety switch on the 17 Ultra. Needs replacement.

make sure the bike does not have the reduced effort clutch lever. Its a stock lever bent to reduce the reach. I have one and it makes the neutral safety switch inop. I don't remember who made the clutch lever right now. When I do I will update.
