Default Harley seat measurement

Hello all!!
Just wondering if anyone knows how Harley measures their seats? I picked up a sundowner demo seat today, part number 52000128 for my 14 street glide. As I'm sure many of you know most seat upgrades for a street glide end up looking pretty large.
I chose the sundowner to try because I'm not a real big guy and it had about the smallest measurements of Harleys seat selection. The drivers seat is supposed to be 14 1/2" and the passenger pillion 13".
Out of curiosity I measured the demo when I got home and it's 17" driver and 14". I measured the widest points of each saddle. Is this correct or do they measure differently? I thought maybe they put on the wrong part number sticker but I don't see any of their seats with those measurements.
Thanks in advance for your input!!
Jim

It looks like I'm not the only one that doesn't understand how Harley measures their seats.

The 14.5 measurement, side to side is taken where your thighs should be when seated or, standing when stopped. It is the point where the side bolstering from the lower backrest portion of the seat is stitched to that part your butt rides on. Std setback, f to r at base of seat should be somewhere in the area of 15 to 15.5 iirc. Sounds like someone handed you the super wide touring seat by accident. I know my Mustang seat has a 17" wide bun bucket w/ 14' bitch pad and I love it. It sure made the two 5k plus trips to the pacific coast I made this past summer very enjoyable.

Thanks Mikey!! I was measuring it wrong then (widest part of each saddle). What mustang do you have? Like a summit or super touring?

The regular Mustang p/n 76033 touring seat with the opening in the middle for the backrest kit. No chrome or black pearl studs on the sides. http://www.mustangseats.com/Categori...arSearch=76033

I also use the Mustang backrest kit. Easy install for starters. Much easier to adjust on the fly than the one from Harley-Davidson. I can raise/lower it or tilt fwd or back while moving down the road simply by reaching behind with one hand. That is very hard to do with the basic one from Harley. Their cable adjusted one can develop issues over time if one does not keep the release cable lubed. I've tried them and returned them.

That looks like it would be a comfy seat. I'm considering their sport touring seat. It's tough finding the best of both worlds(comfort and looks) when it comes to a street glide seat. It's been discussed here before, going to have to give up some looks to be comfortable which I'm fine with, just trying to minimize the ugly. LOL Do you find the mustang seats firm or kind of middle of the road?

Mustang is firmer than HD, not as hard, firm as Corbin, the Mustang 76033 sets about like stock, But zoom in on the pic from the link, where the seams are sewed where upper leg goes , i could feel, but liked the seat, super tour sits back farther than stock, i like it much better, but reach to bars a little bit more, hope this helps

^^^^ This. The Super Tour will move you back 1.75 " according to Mustang. You really should check out their on line web site. The new Low Down line is pretty cool. Along with the Perewitz Signature seats they now make. Also, unknown to most, Mustang will now custom build to order as does Corbin. O/p, my suggestion would be to check their rally schedule. They bring a full complement of their seats to the rallies they attend. Unless really modified, the factory seats go to hell in a handbasket over time. Most on this board will agree. I have always migrated to Mustang seats. Even after trying several Corbin seats that were custom fitted in Hollister.
