The 103....

I like my 14 RK with the 103 HO and along with TMax, V&H and AC, I never do anything to the engine like cams. I plan on keeping this one for a long time so I don't beat the hell out of it. To each his own, but I think all these guy putting in big cams, throttle bodies, pistons etc, and don't do anything to the rest of the drive train are looking for problems.

The drive train is actually pretty stout as long as you stay under about 130hp/130tq you'll be fine. Problems can arise over those numbers as well as if people start going crazy on the brake stands/burnouts.

I feel the same, my 14 RK runs awesome, 2 up, mountains, anything you can throw at it, 2 years, 14,000 miles, no warranty work except I had them change front spark plug wire, was a little chaffed, rubbed against the gas tank or frame.
Never say never, maybe 2 years or so I'll think about a new RK but I too like no payments and this one is almost paid off, just don't feel compelled to switch or want something else YET. )

Nature of the beast says you'll always want more but the 103 on my 15RGS has exceeded my expectations for an 800+lb touring bike. Went on several trips 1 and 2 up and It never lacked power or acceleration. When I want to go fast there's a Hayabusa in my garage. When I wanna relax and chew up some highway that 103 does the job. If an when I want more I may upgrade my current motor to a 107 or 120R but it's gonna take a lot more than an engine upgrade to warrant a trade in on my Glide

I've only put 3000 miles on my 16 RK so far so I'm not changing anytime soon! I thought it was fine stock but added a tuner and A/F hoping to cool it down a little.
The new ones get great reviews, but this ones paid for and I'm happy with it. At some point I'll add a set of slip Ons but I'm not sure which ones yet. I'd like just a little more sound without being too loud.

I test rode RKs many times over the years since the mid 90's. Always tempted, but never enough to pull the trigger. I just find smaller bikes more fun in general, and plenty comfy cross country if set up correctly...I was also never in search of a floating pillow of a bike.
Well last year, after skipping a few years, I rode a '16 and knew it was time. Sure it was on the heavy side, but once it was moving it handled better than my Dyna. It was the best Twin Cam I'd ever ridden. I felt it was worth the purchase. I've really enjoyed the bike since getting it and continue to be impressed by its overall quality and performance. I have slip ons, 3rd party tuner and AC...still have the cat so there's heat by my foot, but engine temps are better with the good tune and it flat out hauls.
Initially the M8 sounded like a sellout design (Goldwing etc...nothing against Hondas...just don't enjoy them), but then I started hearing good things too. Finally took a test ride on a '17 RGS with a dealer installed SE stage 1. I thought the bike was really nice. Felt and sounded good...like a Harley. Now the RG is much heavier than my RK so its hard to compare, but my 103HO stage 1 felt as strong if not a little stronger than the 107 M8 with stage 1. I'll credit my tuner being a little more dialed in than the standard dealer flash. I'm sure a privately tuned M8 would have been a different story.
Overall I came away impressed with the quality of the new motor and hopeful for Harley's future, but think I'll be okay to wait awhile before thinking of buying one. Especially with the few kinks they have yet to sort out regarding oil pressure and some smoking.
I'm just relieved that there'll be something fun down the road. In the meantime my '16 is still all the things I bought it because of...a great bike that totally satisfies me to ride (as much as any bike that's not an Evo can).
