Just got the recall notice today from the MOCO for the hydraulic clutch on my 2016 FLHTK. The recall doesn't include 2015 models, but just wondered if it could have been a related problem which caused yours to fail at only 17K miles. My previous bike (2011 Fat Boy) had 46,000 miles on the original clutch with no problems.

I don't think so. Mine also had the recall but that was just for the master cylinder where it doesn't hold the clutch disengaged and you could jolt forward etc...

If the clutch is not fully disengaged while stopped in gear, this can cause significant wear. Might have been the problem.

That does make sense but I did the recall right away when it came out so that wouldn't have been happening very long and also wouldn't you feel it a little if it was not fully disengaged?

Default Clutch Warranty Extension

Did you receive this letter. I would check with HD Customer Service to see if they would cover the repair.

Thanks for this however, this extends the parts that are already under the two year warrantee. For some reason it was the "wearable" parts of mine that went out and that was not covered under the warrantee in the first place. I think that's why they use "engagement system" in the letter.

I just thought it would be worth a phone call. I don't see anyone posting that the needed a new clutch after only 17,000 miles. I know the clutch discs & plates would be considered 'wear items' but for them to fail seems very unusual. I have a 14 FLHTK with 70,000 miles on the original clutch. I don't drive it hard but I never had any problems except for the clutch master cylinder having some air in it. My problem was prior to any of the recalls in Sept 2013.

I asked the same questions when I brought it in. They said they would take a look and then told me later that nothing that is under warrantee is broke or had caused the issue. It not worth fighting about at that point. It is disappointing however.
