All map updates for my older GPS are not cheap either. Tom-Tom and Garmin were a bit of a sting to pay. I guess you have to figure if it's worth it to you.

Another rip off from HD. Dealer just did a free nav update on the wife's 2015 tri-glide, and my Garmin Zumo 665LM came with free lifetime map updates. It's a head scratcher.

It is really noticeable when zoomed way in. When in a city I am not familiar with, I will zoom in a lot so I can see my position relative to the streets and the turn so I can be sure which street I am turning on. At this level, 3D is very helpful.

If you have not done this before follow the link and read all of the How to Guides and then read them again then follow the directions.
Then watch video on getting the finger print from your bike. The Update is Free for CVO owners

Just a note.
I DL'd the thumbprint from the bike and started the toolbox. Navextras says there are "Important" updates and proceeds to load them to the flashdrive...install the stick to the bike...says "Authenticating" and I get "No Nav data" or something to that effect.

So, it did not load the "Important" updates...must'a not been that important...LOL

Any ideas??

Oh, one more thing...
waypoints stored in SAVED still cannot be deleted unless you do a factory reset...and YES, no trips or tracks are in the database. This is still a bug.

After it installed the Important updates to the thumb drive did you then down load the map updates?

Sounds like you got the NAVSYNC up date but then did not download the map data
Look at your thumb drive on your computer and you should see 3 files named like below

synctool.TBver

swdl.iso

swdlLog.txt

No, I didn't DL any map data. That would require a $150 investment. I was just looking for the system update

well i think you have things mixed up if you looking for the firm ware up date you get that on the Harley site not the navextras site

The navextras site is for Map updates only

Ha...Na, I got that under control. I'm all up to date on the Info' software. I was mainly just goofing around with the NaviExtra DL...nothing has changed since I got the bike in 2013.

The Naviextra site always has me questioning the "Important Update!!" deal...Evidently, the important update is the (read OLD and OUTDATED) 2Q2015 MAP update, and that's all.

Using BaseCamp to plot out a route and the onboard system to just go to the center of a city (forget address and street, just enter CITY and hit go...) the old 2Q2014 map set works just fine.

IMO the price tag of $150 is out of line for what they are offering. If it was up to the minute or if it was real time somehow, it might be different, but it's just too old to be very price effective...

THANKS for your reply though! Much appreciated!

Paul

Yep, it's a free download for CVOs. Downloading the new maps now. The roads and freeways have changed so much in Houston in the last two or three years that it would be worth it to me to cough up the $150 if it wasn't a free update for me. I'll post again after seeing how accurate the freeway system looks here in Houston. For as much as these touring bikes cost and as outdated as the current maps are, Harley should be making the first update (at least) free for all of their touring bikes.
