Manual says 5,000 miles and doesn't indicate that is for synthetic. I have never had a dealer tell me anything like that.

Agreed! Dealer is trying to get more cash from you, find a new dealer.

Personally, I would not be upset with your dealer. He is telling you what he recommends. I go beyond that. I, as many, prefer a good full synthetic oil for the engine. ( Syn3 is a blend, not full synthetic ) Synthetic transmission oil for the trany, engineered to serve as trany fluid and primary oil for the primary.

Congrats on your bike
Thanks Scott...
I agree 100% with what your saying but I have rode this "Best Oil" train numerous times before and the ones that really benefitted from my going with "The Best" were the next owners. This time around I have a 4 year warranty and my wife said that if I'm still riding when it runs out (I'll be 70), I can buy a new one.

Sorta like a condo with a HOA. There are 55 units (apartments) here and we all own 1/55th of everything... building, grounds, everything. The first owners to live here voted to keep the underground garage clean and orderly by not allowing any vehicle maintance to be done and now 10 years later that is still the feeling of us owners. I knew that coming here and it was tough to give up my garage and my workshop but decisions have to be made at times and I'm Ok with that. I could still probably change my own oil/filter but I'll just have the synthetic put in at this 5k check and I'll be good till the 10k.

tnx

It's a money grab, plain and simple. Unless you're consistently riding off road (on a Harley - really?) stay with the 5k owner's manual schedule.
