Cig lighter, P&A circuit.

Cig lighter, P&A circuit.
I decided I would get more use out of a cigarette lighter than the charging socket that came on my 2016 Ultra. Easy enough to do, worked fine for about two days, then it blew a fuse. It was the P&A fuse, which also runs the auxiliary/spot lights. I know lighters draw a lot of current, so replaced the 15amp fuse with a 20amp.
Worked fine for about a day, then blew it again. Thought maybe I have a defective lighter, so I replaced it. Blew again after 4 or 5 uses. Since I always leave my auxiliary lights on, thought I would run the lighter off a different circuit. While I was at it, I used the wires from the charging port to hardwire a power cord for the GPS. Worked great, clean cord install for my GPS. I then wired the cig lighter socket to the battery tender plug. Lo and behold, the battery tender runs off the same P&A fuse as the auxiliary lights! (I am getting really good now at replacing fuses and pulling the outer fairing).
FINALLY, I wired the cig lighter direct to the battery with an inline 30 amp fuse. So far, so good. Got my fingers crossed!

The lighter is rated for that current. The circuit is not. It was purchased from HD and wired according to their instructions. But I agree, that circuit cannot handle the load. It is now on it's own fused circuit (with heavier wire).

Yup, that's the one. Yes, the socket that comes with the bike will not hold a lighter. The kit contains a lighter and a new socket. It's an easy install, but the circuit apparently cannot handle the lighter when auxillary lights are on.
