Sorry I thought you were trying to use the power point with a lighter element, I think someone tried that once and posted he had a meltdown.

I too replaced the 12v charger with the HD cig lighter. I didn't cut the wires as instructed, I took two short pieces of wire and put crimp connectors that corresponds to the two factory connectors. Use it all the time with aux lights on, no issues. Also have my aux lights flashed to stay on with brights...

That cigarette lighter kit instructions indicate that it will draw only an additional 5 amps. If you're popping the stock P&A 20 amp fuse, you have something shorting out intermittently. That 30 amp fuse to the battery will probably blow too at some point or burn your bike down. You should find & fix the short issue.

I did, it was the socket. It's a simple thing, and visually I couldn't see anything wrong with it. But replaced it and all is fine. Am still going to leave it on it's own fused circuit.
