Neutral shouldn't be hard to find. I could crank my 15 in gear with clutch before my recall. It worked just the same after the recall.

But if I were you I would not try cranking in gear with clutch in close quarters until after you've had the recall.

I had the recall completed on my 15 FHLTCU ,no issues until 3 days ago. I started the bike in neutral shifted to first bike took off, I immediately shut the bike down. I looked over the bike wondering what the hel just happened ,I had rode the bike to work that evening without any issues. What I found was an empty reservoir ,I could not find any leaks ,no puddles or fluid under the bike. I still don't know where the fluid went. I went and got a bottle dot 4 brake fluid filled the reservoir pumped the lever a few times all is well. I still don't know where the fluid went. I will be keeping a close eye on it .

crimson13--Did you happen to notice if the clutch lever felt different when you pulled it in to put it in gear? The pull wasn't as hard or firm as usual?

I'm just wondering if there is a way to tell if the clutch pack is working right when the lever is pulled.

I just had my 1000 mile service completed this morning and they informed me that my 2016 Limited was affected by the recall. They said it's only 2016 models that are affected. They didn't have the "kit" to upgrade the bike, so I'll have to bring it back whenever they get it.
You can start it in neutral without a problem, but I'd apply the front brake when I shifted into first in case the clutch fails.

I did notice a difference the clutch was lighter but did have some resistanve, as soon as I shifted in first the bike took off , when I filled the reservoir back up ans pumped the lever a few times I could feel it building up. Help my brake this time when I shifted to 1st. I still have no idea where the fluid went.the reservoir was full 2500 miles ago when I serviced the bike.

Thats just silly, cable is outdated crappy way to engage and disengage clutch. Cars and other bikes had hydraulics forever now. I'm sure Harley can manage this transition just fine.

To OP, thanks for the heads up bud! This looks like a new recall.

Yes. New recall. NHTSA Recall 16V-471

Maybe one day HD will get this clutch figured out.

Info:

Last UpdatedJul 12, 2016

Harley-Davidson has learned that the hydraulic clutch system with black master cylinder part numbers 36700049B, 36700056B, 36700146 and 36700186 on certain model year 2016 Touring and Softail model motorcycles may exhibit a condition in which it may lose the ability to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch after being parked for an extended period.

Model

2016 Electra Glide Ultra

Be sure they replace the gasket on the clutch master cylinder cover. I've had 2 clutch master cylinder recalls done (though I never had a failure) and now my master cylinder is seeping fluid from the cover gasket. I picked one up at my dealer yesterday for $5.25. I could have done it under warranty but I happened to be riding by on my way home from a week on the road and it would cost me more than $5.25 in time and gas to ride it back to the dealer after making an appointment.

It's probably was seeping because most techs like to tighten the screws to much on the cover, which squishes the gasket and doesn't permit it to seal properly. I've found if I loosen the screws a bit, the seepage stops.
