Default Will Headers/Tuners void Warranty?

Will replacing the exhaust system and adding a fuel controller really void the manufacturers warranty on a new bike?

Yes, wait no. Your going to get both answers because no one really knows except the motor co on any particular day.

No, it does void the warranty. Yes, some dealers will try to deny service under warranty.

So it doesn't technically void the warranty, but some dealers try to deny coverage? Has anyone here been denied coverage because of an exhaust system or tuner?

Slip-ons will not. Depending upon the issue, a fuel management module may, and even then it depends on the dealership. Yes, some here claim to have been denied for this reason. And as pointed out on the other threads of this nature, you may be in the right, but you will have to go to court to prove it. Take a guess who runs out of money first.

What are you trying to accomplish? If you just want a better sound, put some slip-ons on and ride it like you stole it. Slip-ons alone do not require a fuel management system.

If it's horsepower your after, you'll need to do more than slip-ons.

I just read through a slew of posts/responses... Consensus is that there is no consensus... I haven't read one person's account yet of being denied warranty work completely unrelated to the part they installed, but it seems that it is at the dealership's discretion whether or not to deny a warranty repair claim.

Usually they'll only deny it if the mod caused the failure. But it does depend on your dealer too. Headers and mufflers don't ever cause a problem and the fuel management products don't either unless you messed with it and created a lean condition that fried the piston or valves. The tuners available today won't screw things up unless you purposely go in there and mess with the settings.

You're on the right track; some repairs may be denied under warranty, but warranties aren't voided until they expire.

Put aftermarket stuff on your bike, and you're on the hook if those items cause a problem. Otherwise, relax. Bolt that stuff on.

Qualifying comment: If your dealer is an *******, there's no way of knowing what will happen.

The actual answer: No, it won't.

However, if you do something, and if whatever you did causes a failure of some sort, and you put in a warranty claim for that failure, it will probably be denied. That does NOT mean your warranty is void, it means that specific warranty claim, for that specific failure, which was caused by what YOU did, will be denied.

If you put a Stage 27 tire shredder kit on your bike, and it dynos 200/200, and then your speakers in your Infotainment system fail, the speakers will be covered under your warranty, because that failure had nothing to do with what you did.

If you do a major performance upgrade on the engine but don't upgrade the clutch, and then the clutch burns up, if you try to get the clutch repair covered under the warranty, it will be denied.

But your warranty is not void, it's still good.

Yes, this answer is good.

They cant deny warranty on your handbar controls if you put slip ons on. Understand? Or or aftermarket radio causes your bike to run rich
