Default Saddlemen BR 4100 Rain cover help

OK i bought a Saddlemen 4100 backseat bag to take on the trips. I set out on a 10 day trip last June in the 40 degree rain for about 4 hours. Tried to put the garbage bag over it, but the rain blew it off. Everything got soaked, great bag but why no rain cover? I went as far to call Saddlemen this week and got a service guy on the phone, he was no help. Had no alternative to offer and was unsympathetic to my problem. I will try the waterproof spray but would like to know if anyone has had one made or found another bag maker who makes one that is close. I bought the biggest one that T-bags made and it wont go over it. Dimensions were close but not enough. Just looking for another idea. Google has not been much help either. Thanks

I thought that they all came with a rain cover. We have the 3400 and it did. Your's says, "Constructed of UV-, water- and weather-resistant 1200-denier SaddleTuff™ and leather-like vinyl panels" Guess it's supposed to be water resistant without a cover; bet you'd argue that point with them.

Yeah i would argue that with them. Is the 3400 shaped like the 4100? I looked at a few pics online and was a little confused about the 3400.

Default Saddleman 4100

Purchased one of these in 09 for a trip to Alaska and have been satisfied. Have ridden in lots of rain and have not experience things getting soaked. Did pack my sleeping bag in a plastic Kitchen garbage bag. I guess the mess kit, stove, etc that I packed in the bag wasn't that important to keep absolutely dry. Towel and sweat shirt type items place in plastic shopping bags just as a precaution. The Saddleman has made several trips to the U.S. and Canadian Rockies as well as Newfoundland. I have added a few zip ties where some of the seams are coming apart, but all and all have been very happy with the product. Now have a new sleeping bag and mat that pack much smaller and have been considering a smaller back seat bag as a replacement.

No, they are shaped differently.. can't tell from the pictures the size difference.

I've used a contractor trash bag w/ mine. Tucked it in/down. Seemed to work ok without blowing off.

I have the same bag and have used it for several years. I always use a large garbage bag on the inside and pack everything inside of it and seal the top. What water that might leak through to the inside of the Saddlemen bag does not get inside the garbage bag. If the Saddlemen was wet, I would take it inside with me for the night and it would be dry the next morning.

I have had a BR4100 for about 6 years now and have logged about 50000km (30000mi) with it on my '07 Ultra. It has been to every Canadian province and about 35-40 of the lower 48 states and, other than the corners causing some scrapes to the rear speaker grilles, I have no complaints. For a rain cover, I went to an outfitter (for the Canadians in the house, it was MEC) and got a medium sized backpack rain cover. It covers the top completely and comes down about 8-10" on either side. I wasn't worried about the back or front of the bag because those were fairly well protected from the rain by the Tour Pak in the back and me in the front. The first time I rode with it, the wind got underneath it and inflated it a bit, but when secured with one of those 1" wide but kind of thin bungee cords (maybe 24" long or so) wrapped around the bag and rain cover, it was fine. YMMV.

Update to the post. I called Saddleman and they made me one. It was in July of 17. I talked to operations director and he agreed that there was no reason it didnt come with one. About 3 weeks later one came in the mail. Great Company and now i can cover up the 4100 and not worry about a trash bag or everything getting soaked.

Try lining the inside with a heavy duty trash bag instead of placing the trash bag on the outside.
