Planning to ride to the Keys
#22
I've ridden from MA to Key West twice. When I used to do Daytona bike week a few of us would do Key West after bike week. It was fun but that was ten years ago. I loved driving from Homestead to the Keys, 42 bridges one 7 miles long with beautiful tropical water off to the sides.
Malory square at sunset is fun. I like to people watch and Key West gives you plenty to watch LOL.
It IS expensive and NOT for everyone?

We did a 'Cage' trip to FL a few years back - rented a Harley in Miami and rented a bagger - rode the 'Keys' and spent a night at the end - agreed - can be crowed and $$ but what isn't these days... just have to plan the ride - I Really wanted this picture and got the wife up EARLY - our motel was just around the corner and was able to ride up and get this shot by asking another biker to take it - then I took his.... wait till later in the day and this will Not happen.
great thing to do ONCE, lol
Be VERY careful with your speed - most of the highway is slow and posted as such - the local LEO's love to write tickets - I was warned and behaved but saw several that did not and were being given a souvenir by the local PD
As we rode down - time for lunch, just by chance we stopped at 'Robbie's
did as the tourist do and feed the Tarpin's - great fun

I see you're from the Chesapeake area, large military presence there. If you happen to be retired military the Navy has a Navy Lodge and a type of Navy hotel (don't exactly know what they call it) there. The Lodge IIRC is at NAS Key West on Boca Chica Key (one Key North of KW) and the "hotel" is in KW, within walking distance of Duval Street. VERY reasonably priced, clean and especially safe. I've stayed in both several times...happy travels!
