To say that Teflon tape has no place on a motorcycle is kind of harsh. The tape, if used correctly, does not mean any danger to the threads, whatsoever. Even if used excessively, it will not crack the aluminum housing. It will simply strip itself off the plug. I said I use only a few wraps of it. Just enough to seal the threads and keep the plug from unscrewing itself. You can almost hand tighten the plug all the way in where the O-ring sits. Everybody is entitled to do what he or she believes is the right thing to do. I've been using Teflon tape for eons without any problems and it served me well.

I thought I read somewhere in H-D's service manual or owner's manual that Teflon tape was a no no.

Don't know if its necessary but it never leaks. Pretty hard to fix a leak once the oil has been added, could be costly.
This, along with a new o ring if needed.
