Question Tank Removal for rocker cover swap?

Hey guys,
I have a quick question, and yes I did search first.

I'm helping my buddy black-out his engine on a RGS this weekend. Do I need to remove the gas tank to change the rocker covers and rocker housings? Any tips or tricks?

Thanks ,
Bam

Much less chance to scratch the **** out of it. But loosening the front bolt and removing the rear one and lifting the tank should give you room to maneuver in there.

I can have the tank off of my '14 in less than 5 minutes.

Simple. Do it right the first time.

Gotcha. The tank will be coming off.
I just remember how much of a PITA is was on my 01 Ultra. That cross under tube made for a mess.
Thanks guys!

No cross over on the newer ones... '08-up.

the hardest part is getting the front console screw back in, and it's not that hard.

Remove the console screws, remove the gas cap, lift console, unplug harness and lay back toward rear fender, unplug vent, lay back toward rear fender, remove console, replace gas cap, remove 4 tank bolts, undo fuel line quick disconnect, lift tank. It is easier than it sounds.

You do not need to remove the console.

Buy a manual at the dealer. There are specific loosening and tightening patterns for the rockers boxes and covers as well as rocker arms.

The console must come off in order to disconnect the wires if you want to fully remove the tank which is the best way.
