Oil Change Tip

Oil Change Tip
I was reading another post about changing oil and thought I'd post this tip. When I am going to change all 3 fluids, I get the engine hot of course. Then put one of these filter funnels http://www.jmstoolsupply.com/er960droilfi.html under the oil filter. Then I punch a hole at the bottom front of the oil filter with a screwdriver and let all that oil in the filter drain out into a pan. I also punch one in the top to help the flow. While that's going on, I do the easy tranny and primary change. By the time I get to the engine oil, drain the case into a pan and by then all the oil is out of the filter, take it off with no spills at all. Maybe one drop left. I also use K&N filters and take them off with a socket. Don't over tighten!
Pretty simple, no mess at all. Bought a bag of the O-Rings at Home Depot (they are a standard size) and have the strong magnetic plugs on all 3 holes.

That looks nice, but for $15 (+ s&h) for a nail, hose and pre-formed piece of plastic ... it better be. Here's one I made with my own blood, sweat and tears for over $14 cheaper than that which has served me well for over 10 years now. All you need is a sharp razor blade and a plastic pop bottle you were going to chuck in the recycle bin.

Just changed mine and buddy's this weekend.
Used a 1 qt zip lock bag and fitted it around the filter after breaking the filter loose enough to turn by hand. Then pulled the top of the bag down a bit so i could punch a whole in the front bottom of the filter and the front top of the filter and slid the bag back up and allowed it to drain into the zip lock bag. Once it was drained i just unscrewed the filter and it dropped into the bag. Zipped the bag closed and toss it. No mess at all.
I used to use a plastic bottle like mentioned above and it worked as well.
