I prefer a chromed front end. For me, the Alum finish on the front legs doesn't look right with all the chrome the bike comes with. So if you have the $, go for it. Out here in the West, salt spray, pitting or rust is usually not an issue.

I did chrome lowers and love the look - just get some really nice cowbells to tie them in....
As previously mentioned - Progressive Mono-tubes is the way to go while your at it...

Default Chrome or Not

Well I decided to do the chrome front end, should be in next week , but I sure did like the replies lots to think about. The color matched fairing skirts look very cool, I also like the red calipers very unique look. Thanks guys.

I'd chrome it. I wait about 2 hours after a ride, go back in the garage, put on the music, jack it up, grab a cool one, takes about an hour to wipe the bike down. In about that time with the right detailer, special surface sprays, the bike looks great and the chrome front end and wheels give a great appearance for about 30 minutes of TLC

That looks REALLY sweet. I redid the entire front end gloss black, including the Outer Fairing Skirt, but I might follow your lead & switch to the Charcoal.

Factory painted and matched from HD from Surdyke $100. Got it in one week...

BTW, Progressive Monotube ROCK!

Would you happen to have that part number handy friend? I need the same one in Amber Whiskey. Thanks!

I had a chromed out softail for years and I hated trying to keep it clean, took forever after we moved and had hard water to contend with. Every wash had to be followed by Polish or it would spot like crazy. Going black on my RG, lots of wrinkle and gloss black. Washes with a sponge and no polishing, and saves an hour or more of extra cleaning.
